L
iving with a serious disease such as a brain tumor is a day to day adjustment. Some people find they need help coping with the emotional, physical and/or practical aspects of their disease. Support groups are an important aspect of dealing with Brain Tumors. . In these groups, patients or their family members get together to share what they have learned about coping with the disease and the effects of treatment. Another important aspect of the support group is offering support for the caregivers.
A brain tumor also affects the people involved with the patient: family, friends, employer and co-workers. Their lives will dramatically change, as well. Everyone has different levels of concern. Many will go through the classic stages of grief associated with loss: disbelief, anger, acceptance and depression. It is a difficult time for not only the patient/survivor, but also everyone else.
HOPE With Support wants to offer support in person, over the telephone, and/or on the Internet.
People living with a brain tumor may worry about caring for their families, keeping their jobs, or continuing daily activities. Concerns about treatments and managing side effects, hospital stays, and medical bills are also common. Doctors, nurses, and other members of the health care team can answer questions about treatment, working, or other activities.
